Join HCCC in the Craft Garden to explore one part of the ceramic process by designing and glazing your own ceramic tile, in this activity inspired by the fall exhibition, Later, Longer, Fewer. Add text or a design to your tile using underglazes, glazes, or glaze pencils. Decode the science behind glazing, and learn what happens to ceramic pieces once they are fired. Check out the ceramic works on view at HCCC to find inspiration for your tile!

Note: The glazed tiles will be fired following the event and can be picked up after November 6th.  Please allow 25 minutes to complete this activity. This activity will take place outdoors, rain or shine, in the HCCC Craft Garden and is on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.

HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month. Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children of all ages are welcome to come any time between 11 AM and 3 PM and participate in a 15 – 20 minute activity. Materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product, and history of craft. Learn more here.
