Seok-hyeon Yoon

Seok-hyeon Yoon is a designer living in the Netherlands and South Korea. He enjoys reevaluating everyday materials and objects that surround us. These surroundings often become the starting point for his design projects. He carefully observes and analyzes them, then connects them to design, the environment, society, and industry. His goal is to create materials and objects that support and enhance our daily lives.

Seok-hyeon Yoon’s cups and plates were crafted using wood collected from parks around Amsterdam and paired with linen that was grown, harvested, and woven in the Netherlands. The materials are treated using the traditional Korean Nakdong wood-burning technique and finished with natural ottchil lacquer. The blackened wood and the deep black of more than nine layers of lacquer create a visually unified surface, yet reveal subtle differences in texture and depth, inviting a closer look.
