This month, join members of the Houston Metal Arts Guild (HMAG) as they teach us how to create bracelets and necklaces from copper wire. Start with a hoop of patinated (darkened) and annealed (softened) copper wire. Use pliers and mallets to form the wire into whatever shape you like. Add texture to your piece by pounding it with metal hammers, and brighten it by scrubbing with steel wool. Wear your creation as a bracelet, or string it on a leather cord to make a necklace.
Please Note: Please allow 20 minutes for this drop-in activity. This activity will take place indoors and is on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. No supplies handed out after 2:50 PM.
HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month (except January and July in 2015). Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children of all ages are welcome to come any time between 11 AM and 3 PM and participate in a 15-20 minute activity. Materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product and history of craft. More information at https://crafthouston.org/learn/education-overview/.
