FEATURED ARTISTS
Gabriel Craig is a metalsmith, writer and craft activist. He currently shares a studio at HCCC with Amy Weiks, an artist with a background in photography, printmaking and metalsmithing. During their combined residency, they have created a body of collaborative jewelry using recycled and repurposed materials, such as coins and old watch chains.
Kelley Eggert is a ceramic artist whose work is inspired by nature and the genetic instincts of all creatures to procreate and evolve. Her time at HCCC has allowed her to develop more creatures and expand her ceramic work to include functional mugs with Victorian details.
Ceramic artist and Helen Drutt Fellow Jeff Forster uses modern packing materials, such as Styrofoam, as molds. The resulting works are textured, handmade ceramic objects that reference the mass production of our current consumer culture.
Peter Masters’ ceramic vessels evoke both natural and cosmic forms. Combining glass and porcelain, he layers translucent colors over precisely patterned surfaces.
Metal artist Rebecca Roberds uses enamel on metal to create vibrant jewelry and wall sculptures referencing microscopic forms. Her works explore color, texture and abstract composition in a way rarely seen in the medium of enamel.
ABOUT THE ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE (AIR) PROGRAM
HCCC has five on-site artist studios to give visitors an up-close, insider’s view of the creative process. The resident artists play an integral role in introducing visitors to the hands-on making of craft, while they work to expand the parameters of their chosen medium and explore new directions in their work. The program, which provides underwritten studio rent and a monthly stipend, is open to local, national and international artists working in the traditional craft media of clay, fiber, glass, metal or wood, as well as mixed media. The artist applicants are juried and selected by the HCCC AIR Committee.
