Fifteen years ago, a small but dedicated group of enthusiasts had a vision for developing and supporting a space for contemporary craft in Houston. What began humbly soon grew into a pioneering venue for the field, unique among arts organizations in the region and truly original among its peers across the nation.
Your support of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft continues this legacy, and your gift made by December 31st will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $75,000.
Among the innovative programs that help make HCCC a leader in the field is the platform the organization provides to emerging and mid-career talent. The Artist Residency program and the Windgate Curatorial Fellowship, in particular, have become successful incubators for the next generation of leaders in contemporary craft.
The Center was among the first craft museums to place artist studios at the heart of the public experience, and its resident-artist alumni have gone on to be widely celebrated for their inventive work. Last year, Jaydan Moore was named the inaugural recipient of the American Craft Council’s Emerging Voices Award; two years ago, Anila Quayyum Agha won both the public vote prize and the juried prize at the prestigious international art competition, ArtPrize.
Likewise, the Center is a leader in supporting the voices and careers of emerging professionals. We are inordinately proud that each of our former curatorial fellows has secured positions of influence in the field at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and here at HCCC.
A gift to the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft today ensures opportunities for emerging artists and professionals in the years to come.
Please join us in securing a bright future for the next generation of craftspeople and the many who champion them.
With appreciation,
Perry A. Price HCCC Executive Director |
