Bowls Due in May

The Empty Bowls Houston Steering Committee invites all artists–ceramists, woodturners and woodworkers, hot and warm and cold glass artists, fiber artists, mosaicists, polymer clay artists, metalsmiths, painters and sculptors–to create and donate handmade bowls for Empty Bowls Houston 2013, which will be held May 18 at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft.

Last year, artists from colleges, K-12 schools, and group and individual studios donated almost 2,000 bowls in clay, wood, fiber, glass, metal, and other media! With bowl sales plus donations from sponsors like Whole Foods Market and Ceramic Store, Empty Bowls Houston netted more than $68,000 for the Houston Food Bank. Leveraging its charities and distribution networks, the Food Bank was able to utilize these funds to provide three nutritious meals for 68,000 people in Houston, Harris County, and surrounding counties whose food bowls would otherwise be empty.

Bowls may be dropped off  beginning the first week of May at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, 4848 Main Street (Tuesday through Sunday), or the Ceramic Store, 1002 W. 11th Street (Monday through Saturday).  In the meantime, to keep up with news and events, follow the event on Facebook at Empty Bowls Houston and on Twitter at @EmptyBowlsHOU.
