Please join HCCC for HANDS-ON HOUSTON on Saturday, March 1st. This month, join local artist, Miguel Unson, to learn about glass engraving, a technique used by skilled artists to scratch and carve the surface of the glass. Miguel has created a variety of unique pendants using recycled-glass bottles. Participants are invited to choose their favorite colored pendant and create their own necklace. To personalize it, Miguel will engrave each person’s name or a meaningful word onto the pendant.

While Miguel engraves the necklaces, participants can create a fun mini-drawing with scratch art, a technique that involves scratching off the black top coating of a card to reveal colorful layers underneath.

Miguel Unson is a professional glass artist working in Houston, Texas. He combines a variety of traditional glassmaking techniques in new and unexpected ways. His goal is to create “Artifacts for the Future: powerful and meaningful objects designed to stand the test of time.”

HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free craft-activity open house on the first Saturday of every month. Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. We provide the materials, and you provide the creativity! Families and children of all ages are welcome, and materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product and history of craft.
