This month, please join us as we create unique pieces of wearable art from polymer clay. The Houston Polymer Clay Guild will be here to guide participants in creating a collage of polymer-clay cut-out shapes and extruded strings of clay, which can be transformed into a cool brooch or necklace.  Once your piece of jewelry is created, it will be baked in a small toaster over to harden and then augmented with a pin or string for wearing.  Either way, you’ll have a wonderful jewelry piece to take home!

This month’s activity is inspired by our summer exhibitions, featuring contemporary jewelry:  La Frontera and Texas Masters Series: Sandie Zilker.  Make sure to stop by the galleries before or after the activity!

Many thanks to Polyform, a polymer-clay manufacturer, for donating the clay and to members of the Houston Polymer Clay Guild for donating materials, as well as their time and energy, to share their love of polymer clay with our visitors!

HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free craft-activity open house on the first Saturday of every month. Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children of all ages are welcome, and materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product and history of craft.
