Join Houston Center for Contemporary Craft for our fall Craft Social to explore the blurred lines of craft and design, inspired by our fall exhibitions, CraftTexas 2018 and After Memphis: Crafted Postmodern.
Discover how CraftTexas 2018 artist Claire Drennan draws inspiration from both Houston’s East End and the natural world in her knitted works, as she demonstrates techniques using her knitting machine. Join CraftTexas 2018 artist Alex Goss for a presentation on his artwork, YouScrew, and learn how tools and machines are central to his art practice. Explore the postmodern furniture and objects on view in After Memphis, and discover inspiration to design your own set of polymer-clay coasters.
New Schedule
Craft Social events have moved to a new quarterly schedule. Attendees can expect the same level of creativity, experimentation, and fun to which they’ve become accustomed, and events will include a more robust menu of experiences, including hands-on making, talks and presentations from community experts, and in-depth looks at current exhibitions. Events will take place in January, April, July, and October, and the hours will be 5:30 – 8:00 PM for each event.
Craft Socials are casual evening events designed to emphasize experimentation, curiosity, and innovation. Visitors are encouraged to drop by and participate. All events are free and on a first-come first-served basis. Capacity is limited. Craft beer is generously provided by Buffalo Bayou Brewing Co., and materials are sponsored by Art Supply on Main Street.
