CANCELLED–In conjunction with Empty Bowls, this month’s Hands-on Houston will focus on experimentation with air-dry clay.Take inspiration from the HCCC Craft Garden and try your hand at making impressions in the clay using a variety of leaves and plants. Roll, poke, carve, and press things into the clay to see what marks they make. Get to know this material, which can be used to create a variety of functional and sculptural objects.
Note: The air-dry clay will not be food safe and does not need to be fired. The activity will take place outdoors and is on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.
HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month. Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children, ages 3 and up, are welcome to come between 11 AM and 3 PM and participate in a 25-minute activity. Materials are provided, and teaching artists and volunteers give step-by-step instructions. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product, and history of craft.
