As humans, telling stories is how we make sense of ourselves and our experiences and make meaning.
Join HCCC for a special workshop inspired by our current exhibition, Designing Motherhood, to reflect on, process, create, and share (if desired) your birth story. The process will be facilitated with gentle guidance from Amanda Moore, the owner of Holistic Expectations, who has worked as a birth doula, childbirth educator, and lactation aid.
First, explore the Designing Motherhood exhibition, then discuss the importance of writing your birth story, and participate in a guided meditation to evoke memories and emotions from your experience. Write or artistically commemorate your story and share or listen to others’ stories as you feel comfortable.
Participants should bring copies of birth photographs, notes they may have taken postpartum, or any special objects that hold meaning to their experience. Blank art books will be provided, as well as watercolor materials, art papers, colored pencils, and archival adhesives to help honor your birth story on paper.
Note: The workshop takes place in person and inside the HCCC building. Space is limited to a maximum of 10 participants.
