This month, join HCCC in creating a musical rain stick, inspired by our current exhibition Nathalie Miebach: The Water Line. For inspiration, explore how basket weaver Nathalie Miebach translates weather data into art through her woven installations, sculptures, and watercolor musical scores. Then, create your own weather-inspired rain stick by experimenting with various sound-making elements like sand, rice, and beans. Decorate the exterior with colors and patterns inspired by works in the galleries that express your relationship with rain, storms, and snow.
HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month. Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children of all ages are welcome to come any time between 11 AM and 3 PM and participate in a 15 – 20-minute activity. Materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product, and history of craft. Learn more here.
