Inspired by our current exhibition, Dining and Discourse, this month’s activity focuses on culture through the art of the cup. Please join us Saturday, March 7th, and get ready for some paper-folding fun and a tea sampling! Origami is the ancient Japanese art of folding paper to create beautiful works of art. Visitors will learn proper paper-folding techniques to create origami cups using colorful papers of various sizes. Our friends at The Path of Tea will present a tea sampling during the event. By creating handmade cups and tasting aromatic tea varieties, visitors will learn about tea culture and the history of serving tea within the native regions where tea is grown.

HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month (except January and July in 2015). Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children of all ages are welcome to come any time between 11 AM and 3 PM and participate in a 15-20 minute activity. Materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product and history of craft. More information at https://crafthouston.org/learn/education-overview/.
