Join resident artist and ceramist Abbie Preston Edmonson to sculpt and glaze your own ceramic planter in this two-part, socially distanced workshop in HCCC’s Craft Garden. Learn the basics of working with clay, hand-building, coiling and glazing throughout the workshop.

Part I – Saturday, April 17, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Part II – Saturday, May 8, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

In part one, Abbie will teach participants hand-building and slab-rolling techniques to form clay planters. Participants will practice with glazing on a ceramic tile. Both the tile and clay planters will be fired before part two of the workshop.  In part two, experiment with glazing techniques on your planter, such as layering glazing and using transfer paper and glaze pencils. Your glazed planter will then be fired and ready to pick up one-two weeks later, during public hours at HCCC.

Want to give throwing on the wheel a try? We will also have a potter’s wheel on site for participants to try out. Join us for this limited-capacity workshop that will get you excited about working with clay!

No experience necessary. All materials and tools are included. This workshop takes place in person and outside in the HCCC Craft Garden. All participants must wear a mask and practice social distancing during the workshop.  Space is limited to a maximum of 10 participants, who will be spaced more than 6 ft apart. If it rains on the day of the workshop, a make-up day will be scheduled.
