The art of ebru traces back to the legacy of the Silk Road Turkish art of paper-marbling and involves painting exquisite patterns, including flora and fauna, onto the surface of water using specialized tools. The water painting is then transferred onto paper.
In this workshop with local ebru and watercolor artist Shaheen Rahman, learn the basic concepts and techniques involved in this Islamic art form, and create and identify various ebru patterns and designs. Explore the dynamics of ebru materials–including dyes, carrageenan, oxgall, stylus, combs and rakes—and experiment with painting on the surface of water, ultimately discovering how to capture your design on paper. Each participant will complete several pieces of Ebru art throughout the workshop.
Please note: The workshop will be held indoors with limited space for a maximum of 10 participants.
