Eco printing workshop

Join former HCCC resident artist Molly Koehn for a live Zoom workshop on the basics of eco-printing. Experiment with this natural dyeing technique in your home kitchen, while Molly, an experienced fiber artist, demonstrates the process and guides you through a step-by-step tutorial.

Eco-printing is a form of natural dyeing, in which the colors from plants, leaves, and flowers are transferred to fabric via steaming or boiling. Plant material bundled inside of cloth is steamed or boiled to release the dye found naturally within plants, creating a contact print in the shape of the leaf or flower used.

The workshop is held in two parts:  a morning session (11:30 am – 12:30 pm) and an afternoon session (2:00 – 4:00 pm), with a break in between for lunch and to let your fibers soak in a dye bath.

No experience necessary. Pre-registration is required. Select materials will be provided to you in a materials kit, but some materials, such as water and leaves, will need to be collected beforehand (see list of materials not included in kit below). HCCC will provide three pre-mordanted, unhemmed, raw-silk handkerchiefs, but participants can provide additional fabrics, such as a silk dress or shirt.  (We recommend Dharma Trading Co. for high-quality dyeable fabric.)

KIT PICK-UP & SHIPPING OPTIONS
Kits can be picked up at HCCC on Thursday, October 22, between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
