This month, join HCCC resident artist Chenlu Hou to make kinetic, fantastical creature puppets. Chenlu uses ceramics, video, digital media, mixed media, and movement to bring her storytelling and folktales to life. Find inspiration for your own puppet by visiting Chenlu’s studio. Watch some of her stop-motion videos, and discover how she uses drawing throughout her work. Then, pick from a variety of head, leg, arm, tail, and body outlines to assemble your own character. Add details, texture, and color to each body part before you bring your figure to life with gesture and movement!
Note: This activity will take place indoors and is on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. The event is subject to change or cancellation in response to current COVID-19 conditions.
HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month. Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children of all ages are welcome to come any time between 11 AM and 3 PM and participate in a 15 – 20 minute activity. Materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product, and history of craft. Learn more here.
