Lily Reeves and James Akers will perform Neon Sword Fight

The opening reception will celebrate Light Charmer: Neon and Plasma in Action with live performances in the Main Galleries and Treachery of Material: The Surrealist Impulse in Craft in the Artist Hall.  The evening will also feature open studios by the current resident artists.  Beer generously provided by Buffalo Bayou Brewing Co.

From 5:30 – 6:30 PM, Lily Reeves will perform Methods of Healing. Reeves will interact with the audience, passing a neon hoop over and around participants and helping them to relax into a meditative state, allowing the light to stimulate their senses.

At 7:00 PM, Lily Reeves and James Akers will perform Neon Sword Fight, during which the artists will  wield “Star Wars”-like, glass light sabers in a battle between opposing forces of good (cool-blue argon) and evil (orange-red neon). The battle during the opening will mark only the second performance of the piece in public.
