Fraser Smith: Carved Quilts

October 25, 2003 — January 4, 2004

Fraser Smith: Carved Quilts is an exhibition of sculpted, basswood trompe l’oeil quilts. Fraser Smith has been creating whimsical and thought-provoking wooden sculptures of quilts and clothing since 1987. Although his work is represented in more than 15 major public and private collections, and he is the recipient of various awards and fellowships, his only solo exhibitions thus far have included no more than six objects. The exhibition at HCCC includes 12 of his super-realistic, carved wooden quilts, plus caps and other articles of clothing, including Honduras mahogany jackets.
