In this professional development workshop, teachers will learn how to incorporate contemporary craft into the classroom while constructing their own hands-on projects.
Explore how HCCC creates experiences to advance education about the process, product, and history of craft, as well as opportunities for self-expression and problem-solving in K-12 classrooms. Discover how arts-integration fosters creativity, experimentation, and grit. Practice critical thinking skills, while creating wearable sculptures and artists’ books. Learn how your classroom can encourage open-ended interpretation and help students to feel comfortable in gray areas. Explore how to develop problem-solving skills by asking students to experiment with materials and rework ideas. Connect this type of thinking with other subjects, such as the Scientific Process and word problems in the math curriculum. Participants will discuss practical tips to incorporate art-integrated conversations and projects into curricula and will be encouraged to share ideas based on their own experiences. Teachers will earn 6 CPE hours for this workshop.
Online registration opens Monday, March 4th.
