Asia Estelle is an African American photographer, ceramicist, and visual activist. Inspired by her culture, Estelle’s practice consists of Black issues and Black natural hair as a language of lineage, liberation, and living memory. Estelle turns to the motif of hair not only for its beauty but for the layers of identity, politics, and community it holds. Her work is a material expression of affirmation and belonging—honoring resilience, care, and the multiplicities of Black experience.
Born and raised in Houston, Estelle earned an Associate of Arts degree from Lone Star College in 2021 and a BFA in photography, with a minor in mass communication, from Texas State University in 2024. Following graduation, she completed an internship as an education intern at the Houston Center for Photography in 2025.
Estelle’s group exhibitions include BUTTER Fine Art Fair (Los Angeles, CA), Don’t Get It Twisted: Untangling Textured Legacy at the Contemporary Art Center (Cincinnati, OH), SAVAGE at Band of Vices (Los Angeles, CA), and BUTTER Fine Art Fair (Indianapolis, IN). Her juried exhibitions include Houston Center for Photography’s 42nd Center Annual, curated by Rebecca Senf. She received the Alan Mills Inaugural Best in Show Award from BUTTER Fine Art Fair, based in Indianapolis, Indiana.
