Join HCCC Education Director, Miriam Mendoza, to learn basic wire-wrapping skills to create a multi-colored bracelet. Participants will twist plastic-coated wire to create their own wearable artwork.
After the activity, peruse the current exhibition, Detritus, in the Artist Hall. The show features imaginative jewelry and headwear created from nontraditional and recycled materials.
In the lobby, join local sculpture artist, Jo Zider, who will display several of her clay “crystal ball” sculptures from her Texas Futures series. The crystal balls are a visual representation of developmental factors in Houston’s growth. As a tie-in to the current SPRAWL exhibition, Jo will engage children in speculating about what Houston may look like in the future.
HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free craft-activity open house on the first Saturday of every month. Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. We provide the materials, and you provide the creativity! Families and children of all ages are welcome, and materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product and history of craft.
