Please join us this month, as we explore the elements of design and create tiny wooden furniture. Choose from a variety of wood forms, and experiment with different configurations before you glue them in place. Keep your creations a natural wood color, or add ornamentation by staining them with colorful brush-tip markers. This activity is all about exploring your creative side—come play with us!
This activity is inspired by our current exhibition, Dining and Discourse: A Discussion in Three Courses, which features three dining-room vignettes, complete with different styles of tables and chairs. Make sure to stop by the galleries before or after the activity to explore the artwork. Young visitors are invited to complete the exhibition activity guide for a chance to win a prize!
HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month (except January and July in 2015). Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children of all ages are welcome to come any time between 11 AM and 3 PM and participate in a 15-20 minute activity. Materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product and history of craft. More information at https://crafthouston.org/learn/education-overview/.
