Please join us on November 19, 5:30 – 8:00 PM, for a night of good cheer, savory snacks and some seriously fabulous shopping as we honor HCCC’s dedicated volunteers and members. At this festive event, you will mingle with acclaimed artists Terry Hagiwara and Jera Rose Petal Lodge as they present exclusive extended selections of their work, and enjoy deep discounts as we launch the annual Museum District Members’ Sale–where current members of HCCC or any museum in the Houston Museum District receive a 20% discount on their purchases!

Terry Hagiwara finds beauty in that which is nearly symmetrical but with a hint of chaos. Hagiwara began taking ceramic classes at the Glassell School of Art in 1989 despite never before having played with the mixture of mud, water and fire. (This is ironic because his hometown of Kyushu, Japan is famous for many ceramic sites.) He works with high-fire stoneware, wood-fire and raku. When raku firing, Hagiwara glazes with either metallic copper or crackle white, in simple geometric surface designs. Or, instead of glaze, he will burnish, apply slip, and then remove the slip after raku-firing; a process he calls “jade finish.”

Jera Rose Petal Lodge is a jewelry designer working to create steel and silver wire-based artworks. Her pieces range from small scale production and limited edition work to large scale sculptural jewelry pieces. The forms Lodge uses are frequently geometric in nature which utilizes patterns and repetition to create bold, graphic shapes.  Design and function are her primary concerns and the strength and durability of steel allows her to create forms that are lightweight and visually delicate yet sturdy and easily wearable. Lodge often uses cold connections to introduce elements of motion, sound and playfulness into her jewelry.

The trunk show continues on Saturday, November 2111:00 AM – 4:00 PM. The artists will be present both Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon, so please come by to learn the ins and outs of their work, while taking advantage of the Museum District Members’ Sale. This is also a great opportunity to learn more about our volunteer program and how to join our proud team of HCCC volunteers.
