Please join Houston Center for Contemporary Craft for a reception celebrating Rooted, Revived, Reinvented: Basketry in America. Opening on Saturday, this expansive summer exhibition chronicles the history of American basketry, from its origins in Native American, immigrant, and slave communities to its presence within the contemporary fine-art world. Visitors will delight in the variety of baskets on view, which range from traditional to highly unconventional and explore diverse cultural histories. On Saturday afternoon, join Jo Stealey, co-curator of the exhibition, for a brief tour and talk at 3:30 PM. Stealey will cover techniques and materials used, as well as the history and stories behind some of her favorite baskets in the show.
