Please note: Due to our current closure, our neighbors at Lawndale Art Center have generously offered to host this event.

Join HCCC in exploring balance and stability by designing your own, whimsical kinetic sculpture using wood and recycled materials. Tilt, slide, and suspend everyday objects and ordinary materials into surprising arrangements, and explore stability, centers of gravity, and symmetry through this hands-on, tactile activity. Learn to balance your sculpture visually and physically and assemble your materials into a captivating work of art that defies gravity.

Note: This activity will take place indoors and is on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.

While you’re at Lawndale, make sure to check out the Big Show 2024, an ambitious open-call juried competition of artists practicing within a 100-mile radius of Lawndale that reflects our commitment to supporting local and regional artists at various stages in their career.

HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month. Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children of all ages are welcome to come any time between 11 AM and 3 PM and participate in a 15 – 20-minute activity. Materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product, and history of craft. Learn more here.
