Discover the beauty and craft of the Turkish art of ebru paper-marbling with local ebru and watercolor artist Shaheen Rahman! Known for its exquisite and traditional patterns painted on the surface of water with specialized tools and transferred to paper, ebru’s origins date back over 500 years to Silk Road production of this art.
Participants will learn the basic concepts, patterns, and techniques involved in this historic Islamic art form and create their own ebru patterns and designs. The materials and tools of ebru will be introduced, including dyes, carrageenan, oxgall, styluses, combs and rakes. Then, experiment with painting on the surface of water and discover how to capture your painting on paper. Each participant will complete several pieces of ebru art throughout the workshop.
Please note: The workshop will be held indoors with limited space for a maximum of 10 participants.
