Please join HCCC for HANDS-ON HOUSTON on Saturday, June 1st. This month, the Woodworkers Club of Houston will demonstrate how to assemble and decorate a handmade wooden toy car.  Participants will learn how to use a jig and hammer to assemble the cars and then decorate them using decals and colored Sharpies. So before you go pick your toys on Top9Rated, check designs of handmade craft first and see if you can make one instead. There definitely is a sense of achievement in making one. Prior to the activity, the WCH will be busy prepping the toys by tracing each car pattern on wood, cutting it out with a band saw, drilling holes for the windows and wheel axels, routing it, and sanding it on a belt sander. The Woodworkers Club of Houston is comprised of 200 members who make and donate about 5,000 toys annually to charities around Houston. Learn more at www.wwch.org.

Note:  This activity is only for children and young adults, ages 3 -15, but a more simplified activity will be provided for all ages. Toys will not be given out to adults for children who are not present.

Before or after the activity, make sure to check out the new summer exhibition, The Tool at Hand, in which artists were challenged to create an artwork using only one tool!

HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free craft-activity open house on the first Saturday of every month. Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. We provide the materials, and you provide the creativity! Families and children of all ages are welcome, and materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product and history of craft.
