Please join HCCC and Houston Metal Arts Guild (HMAG) to create seasonal holiday ornaments using the metalworking technique of repousse. Repousse involves the hammering of metal to create a design in relief. Volunteers from HMAG will teach participants how to replicate the effects of this special technique using aluminum tooling foil and simple tools. Participants can take their ornaments home to hang in their house, on a tree, or to give as a gift!
Before or after the activity, stop in the Asher Gallery for unique holiday shopping. Asher features one-of-a-kind jewelry, home décor and other gifts made by craft artists from around the country. Learn more about Asher Gallery here.
Houston Metal Arts Guild (HMAG) exists to provide education and promote public awareness and interest in traditional and contemporary jewelry and metal arts. To learn more about HMAG, please visit their website at www.hmag.org.
HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free craft-activity open house on the first Saturday of every month. Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children of all ages are welcome, and materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product and history of craft.
