Please join us this month as we create colorful scratch-foam prints. Use a dull pencil to press into foam boards, playing with raised and recessed shapes to create a design, and choose from a variety of brightly colored, fast drying ink. HCCC volunteers will help you roll a thin layer of ink onto your design to create a crisp print on black paper. Keep your finished print, as well as the foam template, which can be used for printing projects at home. Please allow 20 minutes to complete this drop-in activity.

Please Note: Due to increased attendance, hands-on activities are now held outside, in the Craft Garden. In the event of heavy rain, the activities will be cancelled.

The Scratch-Foam Print activity, meant to mimic the historic printing press, ties into What Happened Today?, an upcoming exhibition by Arizona-based fiber artist, Ann Morton. Join Ann Morton to make hooked-rug modules for our upcoming exhibition. This activity will take place at the same time as HANDS-ON HOUSTON, but will be inside and requires a minimum of 15 minutes.

HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month (except January and July in 2015). Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children of all ages are welcome to come any time between 11 AM and 3 PM and participate in a 15-20 minute activity. Materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product and history of craft. More information at https://crafthouston.org/learn/education-overview/.
