Homecoming mum workshop image

This workshop has been cancelled.

Homecoming season in Texas is quickly approaching, so join HCCC and homecoming mum expert Jennifer Martinez to design and construct a uniquely fabulous homecoming mum!

Mums are staples for high-school homecoming celebrations across Texas and a rite of passage for many students. In this on-site, hands-on workshop, learn how to build your mum using traditional and non-traditional techniques. Bring your own ribbons and trinkets inspired by your high-school colors and activities to make your one-of-a-kind mum.  We will provide the space, know-how, and basic materials, so you can bring your mum to life and display maximum high-school spirit!

When you visit HCCC, be sure to check out [Mums], 2021, by Antonius-Tín Bui, in the Case Study space. Bui created their own version of homecoming mums, which reference the Texas tradition, yet pay homage to the artist’s own history and background as a member of the Vietnamese American community.

Note:  This event is subject to cancellation in response to current COVID-19 conditions. The workshop takes place in person and inside the HCCC building. All participants must wear a mask when inside the building and practice social distancing during the workshop. Space is limited to a maximum of 15 participants, who will be spaced more than six feet apart.
