This spring, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft will honor the brilliant Houston couple, Mara and Erick Calderon. By creating platforms to explore the relationships among architecture, coding, blockchain technology, and crafted objects, this artistic and entrepreneurial duo are leading the field of generative art and design through their ground-breaking companies, Art Blocks and Generative Goods. The Calderons are also prominent supporters of the Houston arts scene and two of HCCC’s biggest fans, who often bring their young children to make crafts at monthly Hands-on Houston events, visit the resident artist studios, and enjoy cutting-edge exhibitions by artists who push the boundaries of contemporary craft.
The Spring Luncheon will feature a lively conversation with the honorees and a look at what’s on the horizon for HCCC. Guests will have the opportunity to purchase stunning centerpieces and bid on jewelry and contemporary craft objects—as well as a special selection of generative art curated by Mara and Erick Calderon—in the highly anticipated silent auction.
Proceeds from the Spring Luncheon will benefit HCCC and its mission to advance education on the process, product, and history of craft. For nearly 25 years, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft has been a thriving destination for the community to engage with this dynamic art form, serving as a leader in the field and an exciting hub for contemporary craft artists and enthusiasts. Celebrated for its influential exhibitions, hands-on workshops, renowned artist residencies, beloved retail program, and unique craft garden, HCCC offers free admission and a welcoming environment to all visitors.
