Join fiber artist Ann Morton to make hooked-rug squares for our upcoming exhibition. This activity will take place at the same time as HANDS-ON HOUSTON, but will be inside and requires a minimum of 15 minutes.

Opening at HCCC this fall, What Happened Today? is an exhibition that shows the relevance of print news and hand-crafted objects and their combined ability to communicate parallels among the voices of the individual, the greater Houston community, and the world-news stage.

This spring and summer, an ad in the Houston Chronicle asks readers to respond to the question “What happened today?” Responses, mailed in from around the community, will become part of a huge wall quilt comprised of all the individual notes collected through July, 2015. Read our blog to see some of the moving responses we have received in the mail from the community through our ad in the Houston Chronicle.

HCCC is also working with local community groups, university students, arts educators, senior centers, and a number of other service organizations to make hooked-rug squares made from Houston Chronicle news events. These squares will be a part of a huge rug installation. Both installations will be on view in the exhibition, September 18, 2015 – January 3, 2016

There are a number of other ways Houstonians can get involved in the exhibition. Click here to learn more.

See photos from the community workshops on our Facebook page.

What Happened Today? is made possible by generous support from the Houston Chronicle.
