Explore an ancient form of basketry with former resident artist Molly Koehn! In this workshop, participants will learn how to weave a twined basket using a tool-free technique that dates back to the Neolithic period. Baskets will be made using umbrella sedge, an ornamental grass that grows in wetlands and along the banks of rivers and ponds. For this workshop, participants will be using hyperlocal materials – the umbrella sedge was grown and harvested from HCCC’s own Craft Garden by volunteers!
The workshop will start with a visit to the garden to learn about umbrella sedge, then participants will learn how to process and weave the sedge into one small basket. No previous experience required.
Note: The workshop takes place in person and inside the HCCC building. Space is limited to 12 participants, so early registration is encouraged.
