Terracotta clay vessel

—This workshop has been cancelled.–

Join current HCCC resident artist Kirstin Willders live on Zoom for a terracotta vessel workshop inspired by the vessels featured in our winter exhibitions, Forms of Inheritance: The Work of Anna Mayer and Texas Master Series: James C. Watkins.

Participants will begin the workshop with a virtual visit to HCCC’s galleries to explore a range of vessels made by contemporary craft artists. Then, learn how to hand build using clay slabs and coils to create a unique container. Experiment with form, function, and texture, while you design a vessel made from rich, rust-colored terracotta, a timeless clay that retains its warm color after firing. Design and bring to life a planter, an abstract sculpture, a vase, or a uniquely purposed vessel, as you learn the basics of hand building.

No experience necessary. Your vessel can be dropped off to be fired in HCCC’s kiln after February 20th, during HCCC public hours. This method does not include a glaze finish and, therefore, the vessel will not be food safe.
