Opening at HCCC this fall, What Happened Today? is an exhibition that shows the relevance of print news and hand-crafted objects and their combined ability to communicate parallels among the voices of the individual, the greater Houston community, and the world-news stage. Here are several ways Houstonians can get involved in the project:

  • Monitor one or more of our social media accounts (FacebookTwitter, and Instagram) from now until July, 2015, to find out when our ads will appear in the Houston Chronicle. Fill out the form within the ad, clip it, and mail it to Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, 4848 Main St., Houston, TX 77002. The completed forms will become part of a huge wall quilt, composed of all the notes collected over several months.
  • Stop by HCCC to fill out a note that asks the question, “What happened today?” (available March 12 through July).  In this small format, visitors can tell us about a major or minor event of their day, in their own words.  The notes will become part of a large wall quilt in the exhibition
  • Join us on Saturday, April 25th for Museum Experience Day: Zone 2.  In addition to seeing a variety of craft demonstrations, visitors can make hooked-rug squares to contribute to the exhibition.  Artist Ann Morton will be present.
  • Join us on Saturday, June 6th for HANDS-ON HOUSTON. We will have a station set up for visitors to make hooked-rug squares to contribute to the exhibition. Artist Ann Morton will be present.
  • Bring in a group for a free docent-led tour of the current exhibitions, and we can arrange for your group to make hooked-rug components for the exhibition in a hands-on activity following your tour. (Please schedule your tour in advance here.)
  • If you would like your group to be a community partner for What Happened Today?, please email HCCC Curator, Elizabeth Kozlowski, at ekozlowski@crafthouston.org for more information.
