How do we view things differently through a lens? Have you ever noticed how glass can magnify and distort an image? This month, join HCCC to make glass-lens paperweights inspired by the work of glass artist Charlotte Potter. Choose an image that appeals to you, and cut it down to size, or tear into smaller pieces to make a collage. Bring a photograph from home, printed on regular paper, or find one in the old magazines provided. Using a cotton swab, paint the back of your glass lens gem with a water-soluble adhesive. Lay down your photograph, and paint over it with more adhesive, saturating the paper. This process references the photographic decals used in Charlotte Potter: Glass Armory. Please allow 20 minutes to complete this activity.

HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month. Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children of all ages are welcome to come any time between 11 AM and 3 PM and participate in a 15-20 minute activity. Materials are provided.
