HCCC Curators

Take a lunch break with HCCC, and join Joy O. Ude and HCCC Curatorial Fellow MarÍa-Elisa Heg for a discussion about “9ja Vision: The Fiber and Mixed-Media Work of Joy O. Ude.” This exhibition looks at the unique-yet-common experience of growing up in an immigrant family through the lens of the artist’s own Nigerian-American upbringing. Learn how Joy explores ongoing intergenerational and cross-border conversations taking place within the Nigerian diaspora and beyond through a combination of modern and traditional fiber techniques and sculptures. Following the exhibition tour, the audience is invited to participate in a live Q & A with Joy and MarÍa-Elisa.

Craft Chats is a series of short lunchtime conversations with our curatorial staff and special guests. From wherever you are, we invite you to tune into our Facebook Live page to explore themes and works from our current exhibitions. Ask questions via the Facebook chat function, and learn more about the artwork on view. This brief deep dive will leave you feeling inspired and ready to continue your day!
