Presented in celebration of Houston Center for Contemporary Craft’s 25th “silver” anniversary, A Material Inheritance is a group exhibition of contemporary silversmiths and jewelers whose work honors silver’s rich material history.

Silver is the material of heirlooms—it endures generations, bears witness to history, and embodies cultural memory. From its singular metallurgical properties and symbolic weight to its role in the evolution of photography and its reflective beauty, silver is explored in sculptural vessels, wearable forms, and experimental forms. The works, many of which were made by alumni of HCCC’s prestigious Artist Residency program, affirm the continued relevance of silversmithing in the evolving landscape of contemporary craft.

Houston Center for Contemporary Craft galleries are dedicated to interpreting and exhibiting craft in all media and making practices. Artists on view can range from locally emerging to internationally renowned and our curatorial work surveys traditional and experimental approaches to materials.
