Just in time for Go Texan Day, pick up an HOH To Go kit to make an iconic Texan accessory–a bolo tie–using reclaimed and recycled materials. If you are new to Texas, a bolo tie is a type of necktie consisting of a piece of cord or braided leather that is secured with an ornamental clasp or slide. In the spirit of reuse, each person will create a unique bolo tie design, while recycling old or worn items that might otherwise be thrown away.
Before you start your project, visit our galleries, and get inspired by the current exhibition, Nothing Goes to Waste, which features works of art made from recycled and repurposed materials.
HOH To Go activity kits can be picked up and used by the whole family. Designed for ages 5+, the kits will include materials and detailed instructions to guide you and your family through each month’s activity. Just like regular Hands-on Houston events, HOH To Go takes place on the first Saturday of every month and is free to the public. When you’ve completed the activity, share your projects with #craftwithhccc, or tag us at @crafthouston. We’ll share some of our favorites in our social media posts!
Note: HOH To Go kits are available on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. Limit four kits per family. This event is subject to change or cancellation in response to current COVID-19 conditions.
HOH To Go is generously supported in part by Strake Foundation.
