Crafting a Legacy Spring Luncheon 2026 logo on a purple swirl background.

This spring, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft is thrilled to celebrate the organization’s silver anniversary and honor Sara Morgan, its visionary co-founder and first board president.

For the past 25 years, Sara has truly embodied HCCC’s mission—to inspire and connect people to the art and process of making—and been a fierce advocate for the artists who make the field of contemporary craft vital. She is also one of Houston’s leading arts philanthropists. Through dedicated board service at HCCC and many other prestigious arts institutions, including The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Houston Grand Opera; the Children’s Museum of Houston; the American Craft Council; and The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, she has worked tirelessly to uplift the arts in Houston and bring a national spotlight to contemporary craft.

The Spring Luncheon program will feature the honoree and guest speaker, renowned Houston artist, Edward Lane McCartney. Perhaps best known for his exquisite jewelry, Edward’s work bridges fine art, craft, and social commentary. As an early participant in HCCC’s Artist Residency Program, past board president, and current board member, he has been deeply involved with HCCC for more than 20 years and has greatly contributed to the institution’s growth and visibility.

Guests will have the opportunity to purchase stunning centerpieces and bid on jewelry and contemporary craft objects—as well as a special selection of works by artists from Sara’s private collection—in the highly anticipated silent auction. Half of all proceeds go directly to the participating artists.

All underwriting, ticket sales, and donations for the Spring Luncheon will benefit HCCC and its mission to inspire and connect people to the art and process of making. Since opening its doors in 2001, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft has been a thriving destination for the community to engage with this dynamic art form and served as a leader in the field and an exciting hub for contemporary craft artists and enthusiasts. Celebrated for its influential exhibitions, hands-on workshops, renowned artist residencies, beloved retail program, and unique craft garden, HCCC offers free admission and a welcoming environment to all visitors.
