Discover the basics of modern calligraphy in this introductory workshop with Houston calligrapher Meredith Allison.

Inspired by our current exhibition, For Hire: Contemporary Sign Painting in America, the workshop will explore the world of pointed-pen calligraphy.  Just as the sign painters in the exhibition have developed and perfected their own hand-lettering techniques through years of practice, you will begin your practice with a basic, modern calligraphy alphabet and learn drills, basic strokes, and letter forms. Discuss formatting and layout, and uncover tips on how to successfully practice your new skills. Leave equipped to continue your exploration of modern calligraphy!

No experience is necessary. Supplies will be provided. Pre-registration for this workshop is required. Registration fee is $60 for HCCC members and $75 for non-members and includes cost of instructor, materials, and administration fees. Participants will leave with pens, nibs, ink, and practice worksheets. The class is for adults only (age 18 and over) and requires a minimum of 12 participants to hold.

This workshop is SOLD OUT. Please contact ssippel@crafthouston.org to be added to the waiting list.
