Join HCCC and juror Cindi Strauss for an exclusive tour of the current exhibition, Sawed, Soldered, Constructed: The Work of Houston Metal Arts Guild, celebrating the talent within HMAG’s membership. Strauss, co-author of In Flux: American Jewelry and the Counterculture (2020) with Susan Cummins and Damian Skinner, will examine and discuss the works she selected for this juried show, as well as highlight some of the processes and techniques of the contemporary jewelry and metalwork on display.

The Houston Metal Arts Guild, Inc. (HMAG) is a non-profit organization made up of people with varying interests and involvement in traditional and contemporary jewelry and metal arts. HMAG was founded to provide opportunities to exchange ideas and information, as well as offer affordable educational opportunities to its members and the public. The skills, energy, and enthusiasm of the HMAG members promote and sustain its successful programs.

About Juror Cindi Strauss
Cindi Strauss is the Bill and Sara Morgan Curator of Decorative Arts, Craft and Design at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, where she is responsible for the acquisition, research, publication, and exhibition of post-1900 decorative arts, design, and craft, with a specialty in contemporary jewelry. She has authored or contributed to catalogues and journals on decorative arts, craft, and design topics and has been a frequent lecturer at museums nationwide. She received her M.A. in the history of decorative arts from the Cooper-Hewitt/Parsons School of Design and her B.A. with honors in art history from Hamilton College.

Note:  The tour takes place in person and inside the HCCC building. This event is subject to change or cancellation in response to current COVID-19 conditions.
